Redwood Nurseries celebrated Maria Montessori’s 150th Birthday & International Peace Day
Parents joined us for individual nursery ‘Montessori Workshop’s’ gaining knowledge of the Montessori Ethos through engaging with our teachers and developing a better understanding of how to embed Montessori practices into their lives with their families and children at home. This was achieved within our personally developed workshops that covered a variety of aspects of the approach with each nursery covering a different topic.
Nurseries celebrated the day by carrying out a wide variety of activities with the children from listening to and creating music that celebrates peace to peace yoga to making peace trees. Having the children engage in the activities helps to spread the message of peace as suggested by Maria Montessori herself;
Peace is what every human being is craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child. Maria Montessori
As the theme for International Peace Day 2019 was Climate Action for Peace, our nurseries focused on what they could do to help climate change. Working with the children our nurseries introduced recycling programs as well as a composting program. The children had so much fun celebrating and gaining knowledge of climate change and learning that even small changes can have a massive effect on the future of our planet and the way we live our lives.
Our staff, parents and most importantly our children had a great day joining in with the activities and the workshops. We hope that everyone involved will take the shared knowledge from this day’s events that will make a benefit to not only their lives but to that of others around them as well, whether it be a new Montessori approach at home, a small recycling process or a greater respect for peace.
